The Hatayi motif is an ornamental style adapted to Ottoman art from stylized forms of Chinese-origin lotus and rosette flowers. In Iznik ceramics, it was used as a symbol of divine beauty, purity and continuity. The red ground represents power and splendor, while the elegant order of the Hatayi motifs represents infinity and divine order.
