There are many glaze cracks on the product.
When the product is hung on the wall, these cracks are not noticeable from a distance of 2 meters.
The product you order is a completely handmade Iznik ceramic. As you know, ceramics are covered with glaze.
The glaze on ceramics may crack; this is natural for Iznik ceramics. Glaze cracks have also formed on the Iznik ceramics inside the historic Selimiye Mosque. A glaze crack is definitely not a defect.
SHAHDAR: Cracks in Ceramic
Shahdar is an Ottoman Turkish word meaning branched. In ceramic works, the cracks on the glassy glaze caused by moisture and humidity are called Shahdar.
Every ceramic piece may form Shahdar one day; some within a few days and some centuries later.
This is like the wrinkles that become inevitable as we humans grow older.
Just as Ottoman-period artists assigned different meanings to every motif and color they applied on ceramics, they also said for Shahdar: “As the skin of human beings wrinkles with age, ceramic also becomes Shahdar.”
Product Features
Each Iznik ceramic piece is unique, just like a fingerprint. Even if the same product is produced again in the same way, it will not be exactly identical.
The exact same piece you are viewing now cannot be produced again.
We recommend purchasing the product you like immediately if it meets your needs.
The value of Iznik ceramics never decreases, they never go out of fashion, and they do not become outdated. They are artistic heritage pieces that can be passed down from generation to generation.
